How We Help

Media Skills

They used to call it “media training”. Back in the days when there were only two UK news channels, one talk radio station and a handful of newspapers, it was easy to explain how the media operated.

It’s not so simple now.

That’s why you need MediaMouth. Our team has decades of experience - at the BBC and in commercial broadcasting. They know how news and social media networks operate and how you can turn any interview to your advantage.

We’ll teach you how journalists work, we’ll explore current trends and reveal what reporters are looking for in an interview. And we’ll do lots of practicing.

We’ll let you into a secret: ‘news’ is only scary if it takes you by surprise.

By the end of our time together, you’ll have new skills and knowledge, you’ll be able to maximise your company’s interests and give the media an interview that will put your message centre-stage.

Camera & Mobile Skills

A person in a puffy jacket is being filmed by a smartphone mounted on a tripod near a waterfront during sunset. The screen of the smartphone shows the person facing the camera, with the ocean and trees in the background.

Nick Garnett, who runs MediaMouth, was the first reporter to go live on BBC Network TV, in what they call “broadcast quality” from a mobile phone. He was also the first reporter to go live on TV from an iPhone.

MediaMouth is at the epicentre of what is called “Mobile Journalism” - using mobile or cell phones to produce high quality audio and video that’s good enough to show on TV networks.

Some people might think it’s just a case of ‘pointing and shooting’ but to get broadcast quality footage takes a bit more work - and that’s where we come in.

We will show you how to get your phone fit for filming, what to shoot, how to shoot it and for how long. We’ll show you how to interview someone and how to rig low-cost lighting that will make your interviewee look fabulous.

These are the skills you need not just for TV but for any content creation.

We’ll also talk to you about a subject that so many people forget: how to tell a story.
